My Trip to Puerto Rico

Personal

I recently went to Puerto Rico with two friends. I don’t like taking pictures in general but my friends forced me to. Here are some pics:

We decided to catch the sunset by the San Juan National Historic Site. That place was fucking beautiful. We walked the whole thing and I couldn’t believe the views.

Took this pic while visiting Guajataca Beach. We stopped here real quick before heading off to Crash Boat Beach. I hadn’t been to a beach in a minute.

This is America’s longest zip line – equivalent to 28 football fields. You go at about 95mph, while being more than 380m high off the ground. It’s at Toroverde.

While waiting in line for this, I met these two Mexicans from Los Angeles. It turns out they were both gang members (I won’t reveal which). They were hilarious and I ended up taking a shot of rum with them while waiting in line.

Y ahora, toca un verano sin ti
La estoy pasando bien, no te voy a mentir
Pero, a veces, tu nombre no me deja dormir
Pensando dе todo’ lo’ plane’ que hicimo’
Pero así fuе el destino

While walking around La Perla (Puerto Rico’s most dangerous neighborhood), I met this family of three. It was a woman and her son visiting the woman’s mother. The woman and her son were from New Jersey, while her mother lived in Puerto Rico.

The woman asked me, “How do you even dare to come here sabiendo que este barrio es bien peligroso?” I explained that it wasn’t bad – locals were nice to me. Next time I go to Puerto Rico, I want to go to La Perla at night – apparently it’s better than the daytime.

I had to have a Medalla while visiting La Perla. I highly recommend you try one – it’s real fucking good.

Story Time: I was supposed to leave on the morning of 6/27 at 7:22am. However, the three of us overslept and left the Airbnb at around 6:30am. I thought my wallet was in my backpack for some stupid ass reason, so I didn’t bother to check if I had it.

Once we got to the airport, I checked my backpack and my suitcase in search of my wallet. I found nothing! When I tell you that I was heated, believe it. I ultimately gave up and headed back to the Airbnb to see if I could find it. I ended up having to miss my flight, so I bought a new ticket for 6/28 at 7:20am.

When I got to the Airbnb, I didn’t find it so I thought I had left it in the rental car we dropped off the day before. I headed to the car rental spot and they also told me they didn’t have it. That’s when I gave up and realized I had a long day ahead of me.

In my wallet, I had my driver’s license and my CAC (Common Access Card). A CAC is the ID that the military issues you. If you lose your CAC, you have to submit a police report, get a memorandum from your unit, and go to the nearest military base to get a new one….

After the car rental spot told me they didn’t have my wallet, I had to book a new Airbnb for one night. I had to find one that could immediately take me in since I was nearing the checkout time for the Airbnb that I was in.

Once I found an Airbnb and got settled, I called my unit’s executive officer (XO) and told her my situation. Afterwards, I headed to the nearest police station to submit a police report regarding my lost CAC. My XO sent me the memorandum I needed, and I was off to the Puerto Rican Air National Guard base.

It was a whole process to let me into the base because they needed to verify that the memorandum and police report were true. After an hour and a half, I finally got my new CAC! The Airmen that helped me with my CAC were great people and I hit it off with them.

That night, I went to La Factoria for some drinks and food after the long day filled with headaches. I eventually made it home safely.

Lesson Learned: Don’t be a dumbass and lose your fucking ID the day before you’re set to leave.

Lastly, I will say…the nightlife in Puerto Rico is pretty lit. I’ll just leave it at that.
